COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Neighborhood Improvement Association and the American Red Cross are hosting a Weather Disaster Preparedness workshop Saturday, June 28 at 10 a.m. at WorkSource of Coastal Georgia (7216 Skidaway Road, Suite C) in Savannah. The workshop will teach residents how to secure insurance, plan an evacuation route, and protect important documents.  WSAV

CRIME NEWS

  • Police on Tybee Island identified 42-year-old Bryan Wayne Brown as the suspect after a van was broken into and a trailer stolen from a church on June 18—authorities recovered the trailer with help from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and ask the public for assistance in locating him.  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Second Chance Theatre Company presents 'Steel Magnolias' at Vicory North in Savannah, with performances scheduled for Friday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 29 at 2 p.m. — happy hour will start one hour before each show — to offer a warm theater experience for local audiences.  WSAV
  • The Forsyth Park fountain was disassembled Monday morning for a full restoration that will re-plumb, recast and repaint the iconic landmark — originally installed in 1858 — and is expected to return in late fall. City officials also said the Spanish-American War memorial, damaged in January, will be reinstalled by the end of July.  WJCL
  • Angela Hopper-Lee, a professional photographer for 25 years, is holding her first solo exhibit, Simply Me, which shows black and white portraits of children and pets at the Montag Gallery—located at 5111 Abercorn Street. The free event runs Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will benefit Savannah Children's Theatre Emergency Fund with donations and a silent auction.  WJCL
