ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Tybee Island officials mourned HR Director Jamie Spear, who died in a multi-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 80 near Fort Pulaski at about 5:40 p.m. on June 7 — six people were taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center — with the Georgia State Patrol set to release its report soon. - ➤ Police are searching for Asia Singletary, 16, who was last seen Friday morning on the 1300 block of Celeste Drive — she is 5 feet 2 inches, 220 pounds with black hair and brown eyes — and anyone with information is urged to contact CPD’s Special Victims Unit at 706-225-3449. WJCL

- ➤ The greater Savannah area will celebrate Juneteenth with a full slate of events that honor Black heritage. Pooler will host a festival on June 14 with a run on June 19, the Savannah African Art Museum holds a cultural event on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., TybeeMLK plans its 11th annual wade-in on Juneteenth starting at 9 a.m., and Port Wentworth will have a free festival on June 20—from these events, communities will come together to mark this important holiday. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city has confirmed that as the Forsyth Fountain is removed for off-site restoration this month, the signature bricks around the fountain will be preserved—repointed to maintain stability. Families who bought these legacy bricks in 1988 will see the historic fountain return by early fall as part of a project estimated to cost about $650,000. WSAV
- ➤ The city has set aside $60 million to improve River Street with new lighting and a bike lane — part of a vision plan that includes 48 projects to enhance safety and preserve its historic charm. Officials said additional updates like a floating dock and a children’s play area will roll out over the next 24 to 36 months. WJCL
- ➤ Savannah City Hall is nearing completion of its $5 million interior restoration that began nearly a year ago to update mahogany woodwork, historic lighting fixtures, and the mosaic entrance lobby in the 120-year-old building. City Council has met at the Board of Education offices since September — meetings will return to City Hall in August — while additional funding is being secured for the final phase. GPB News

- ➤ Today, local restaurants and Pearson Farm have partnered with CURE Childhood Cancer for the third annual Peach Week, a four-day event that will run from June 25th to June 28th to support funds for pediatric oncology research. Fifteen Savannah restaurants including Ardsley Station, Brochu's Family Tradition, and Cotton & Rye will serve unique peach-inspired dishes with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the charity. - ➤ TV host Stacy London will be the keynote speaker at the 23rd annual SmartWomen Luncheon and Expo on Oct. 10 at the Savannah Convention Center—this event raises funds for the Telfair Mammography Fund to support no-cost breast health services for uninsured and underinsured women.
