COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, Savannah hosted an Influence-her event that honored Dawn Baker and 10 other influential women—leaders from various fields. Mayor Van Johnson attended and Bishop Jackie Gilbert said the awards show important work that touches lives.  WTOC 11
  • Effingham will host a parade honoring first responders—organizers say the event will include ceremonies that recognize the service of local emergency workers.  WTOC 11

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Officials say a multi-vehicle wreck on Hwy 80 near Fort Pulaski Road—blocking both lanes onto and off Tybee Island—has closed the road for several hours while crews work to reopen it as drivers are urged to avoid the area.  WJCL
  • On Saturday afternoon, Chatham County Fire—crews SQ302 and Marine 1—responded to a report of a diver swimming without a flag near Turners Creek Bridge on US 80 and found both the diver and the vessel unharmed.  WTOC 11

CRIME NEWS

  • The Savannah Police are looking for Barbara Ann Harold, who went missing from River Street around noon on Saturday and is described as (5′7 and under 100 lbs) wearing a white t-shirt with small black stripes and white shorts; call 911 with any information.  WTOC 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Saturday saw warm, humid weather with temperatures feeling over 100 as spotty showers turned into strong storms with gusty winds and heavy rain. Today, a line of showers and storms is expected to roll through—bringing gusty winds, downpours and hail while storm timing remains uncertain.  WJCL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia residents will see changes on June 19 as many banks and post offices close for the holiday—trash pickup may be delayed based on local services. Some private banks, like Capital One Cafés, and FedEx will continue operations to serve customers.  Savannah Morning News
