CRIME NEWS

  • Chatham County police are searching for Lydia Bannister, 46, and Jessie Jones, 36, who are wanted for racketeering and drug trafficking—authorities urge anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers.  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • This weekend, nearly 50 film and TV stars from shows like Teen Wolf, Gilmore Girls, and American Horror Story will appear at Epic Con at the Savannah Convention Center—fans can also meet stars from big films such as Harry Potter and Twilight. The event began Friday at 10 a.m. and runs daily until 8 p.m. through Sunday.  WJCL
  • The Daughters of Mary Magdalene and Savannah Building Futures Inc are hosting a Juneteenth festival on June 21 at 11:00 a.m. in 38th Street Park with performances by Ms. Mary Davis plus other local acts, a keynote by Richard Coleman, greetings from local officials, and a free feast starting at noon.  WSAV
  • Former Savannah Braves baseball player and Gilmore Girls star Scott Patterson is in Savannah for EpicCon at the Convention Center this weekend, where nearly 50 TV and film stars will meet fans. Patterson told WJCL 22 News that acting is a tough yet rewarding career—while EpicCon begins Friday at 10 a.m. and runs through Sunday.  WJCL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Savannah Technical College held its commencement ceremony at Enmarket Arena where more than 400 graduates walked the stage and nearly 5,000 guests attended. Alumnus Vinh Pham delivered the keynote and shared his journey from limited English skills to becoming an Airworthiness Inspector at Gulfstream Aerospace — his story highlighted the power of technical education.  WJCL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency confirmed that 2nd Lt. Milton L. Hymes, Jr., a 22-year-old airman from Savannah killed in World War II, was accounted for on November 21st—scientists used DNA and dental tests to verify his identity. His remains will be buried in Thunderbolt on a future date once final plans are set.  WTOC 11
  • Phase 1 of the Savannah City Hall restoration wrapped up with nearly completed Council Chambers on Friday, June 6. The renovated room features restored mahogany floors & integrated modern lighting that blend history with current needs.  Savannah Morning News
