COMMUNITY NEWS

  • BAPS Charities donated a $5,000 check to support the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society after over 350 walkers joined the walkathon at Forsyth Park on Sunday—marking 18 years of partnership in Savannah.  WJCL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Troopers reported that a 16-year-old passenger died when an ATV carrying both its driver and the teen struck a tree along Osteen Road south of Howard Drive on Friday night at 9:30 p.m.—both were taken to a local hospital.  WTOC 11
  • At around 7:14 p.m. Sunday night, Savannah Fire crews responded to a residential structure fire on the 2800 block of Pate Street and quickly doused the blaze by 7:33 p.m.—no residents were present during the incident.  WTOC 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Greg Parker was named 2025 Retailer Executive of the Year by Convenience Store News for his leadership, business excellence and community impact—he has led Parker’s Kitchen for 50 years and donated $20 million to create the Parker’s Community Fund for local charitable causes.  WTOC 11

CRIME NEWS

  • Several law enforcement agencies have gathered around the Comfort Inn on Clyde E Martin Drive near the airport—crews reported nearly two dozen police vehicles with K-9 units, and Pooler and airport police say they are only providing backup.  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pride Month began June 1 to honor those who fought during the Stonewall Riots. The Coastal Empire will host Lowcountry Pride at Tanger Outlets on Hilton Head on June 7, a Pride Bar Crawl in Savannah on June 21, and Stonewall at Starland Yard on June 28 from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. to celebrate safe spaces & progress.  WTOC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chatham County Superior and State Court now meets at the new Eugene H. Gadsden Courthouse on West Oglethorpe Avenue today — all jury summons and court notices now show the new address.  WTOC 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dave Stroud, a stroke survivor, now volunteers at Methodist Hospital where he recovered by using his woodworking skills to make therapy devices that help others rebuild hand strength—he meets with fellow survivors every Wednesday to share support and recovery tips. His journey shows how giving back has brought him a new sense of purpose and joy.  WJCL
