CRIME NEWS

  • The Savannah Police Department is investigating a May 24 shooting in the 100 block of W. Congress Street that injured four adult males — three were found on the sidewalk with serious gunshot wounds — after officers responded at 2:10 a.m.  Savannah Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Forsyth Park in Savannah earned national praise when USA TODAY named its fountain one of America’s most treasured scenic views — a recognition that highlights the park’s enduring beauty.  Savannah Morning News
  • A new film festival called the Hindsight Film Festival will come to Savannah in 2026 to present newly released historical documentaries. A free screening of The Disappearance of Miss Scott will be held at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center on June 6—doors open at 6 p.m. and the film starts at 7 p.m., featuring a Q&A with director Nicole London and journalist Adam Clayton Powell III.  WJCL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today at 9 a.m., officials in Pooler broke ground on phase one of a $25 million Quacco Road expansion project that will add nearly 1.7 miles of new road to ease traffic and offer an alternate route to I-16 + Savannah; construction is expected to last about 3 years.  WSAV
  • Mayor Van Johnson discussed plans to fund improvements to the drainage system during his press conference on Tuesday after recent rains caused 11 streets to close on Sunday, overwhelming the system. The council awaits public input on a proposed stormwater utility fee that will charge residents based on each property's runoff to better prepare for more intense summer events + handle aging infrastructure maintenance.  WSAV
  • The Georgia Supreme Court upheld state restrictions on handgun carry permits for those under 21—rejecting a challenge by 20-year-old Thomas Stephens after Lumpkin County denied his application and confirming that the legislature may regulate how handguns are carried in public.  Savannah Morning News
