  • A gentleman working at a scrapyard in Georgia recovered a World War II veteran’s Purple Heart, and local history buff Steve Quesinberry partnered with the VFW & located the veteran’s niece and nephew in California; arrangements are being made to return the medal to the family.  WJCL

  • Savannah designer Emily McCarthy has opened a new 14,000-square-foot headquarters on East Victory Drive that features a retail space, wine and coffee bar, offices, and warehouse — the facility will support her expanding flagship store, booming e-commerce platform, and wholesale division — as she continues to grow her successful brand.  WJCL
  • Savannah State University alumnus Moses Everett was promoted to Vice President of Digital Services at KQ Communications, the Southeast’s largest Blackowned public relations and marketing firm (with offices in Atlanta and Memphis). Everett (who joined the firm in 2020 and advanced to Director of Creative Services in 2022) earned his business marketing degree from Savannah State in 2008.  The Savannah Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • Savannah Police said a shooting on West Congress Street early Saturday morning wounded four people who were taken to the hospital—images released help officers look for anyone who may know the identities, and tips can be given by calling 912—234—2020.  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Glorify Miracle Deliverance Temple, Incorporated will host its 54th Holy Deliverance Convention from June 2 through June 6 with nightly 7:30 p.m. services and a concluding service at 1:00 p.m. on June 8—featuring speakers like Bishop Willie Ferrell and Apostle Juanita Edwards to guide the event.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Today, the Savannah Wine Institute announced its Juneteenth 2025 programming which includes wine tastings, food, dance, and craft sessions—events designed to celebrate African American culture and freedom. The schedule runs from June 14 to June 21.  Savannah Business Journal
  • Historic Savannah Foundation will host retired Savannah State University Professor Patricia West at its headquarters on June 19 to deliver a lecture titled 'Celebrating Savannah’s African American and Gullah Geechee Literary Legacies'—attendees will join a wine reception at 5:30 p.m. before the lecture begins at 6 p.m. and learn about Savannah's rich literary ties.  The Savannah Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City contractors will begin restoring the historic Forsyth Park fountain this week and dismantle it by early June to update the plumbing and electrical systems. The $650,000 project, approved by city council, is set to finish by the end of summer — city staff confirmed no weddings or events are planned during the work — ensuring the landmark remains safe and updated.  WJCL

  • Savannah Speech and Hearing Center announces that caregivers of infants will join a free three-part tummy time parent training series led by Dr. Jenn Jones at 5414 Skidaway Road, with sessions on June 18, June 25, and July 2 at 9:30 a.m. The classes will teach practical techniques to support healthy motor development—registration is required.  The Savannah Tribune
