  • The Junior League of Savannah announced today that recruitment for its Fall 2025 New Member Class is open—women interested in developing leadership skills and making a community impact may attend three open house events at the League’s headquarters on Waters Avenue.  Savannah Business Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday afternoon, the Savannah Fire Department responded to a vacant structure fire on Old West Lathrop Avenue — the fire was put out around 7:15 p.m., roads were closed until crews cleared the scene and investigators are still checking the cause.  WSAV

CRIME NEWS

  • Charles 'Chuck' O’Neal — known as Alle Shriner — was sentenced to 90 to 120 days in a detention center on May 9th for sexual exploitation of children after his arrest in November following a cyber investigation into his online activity.  WTOC 11
  • One year ago on May 18th, gunfire erupted in downtown Savannah injuring 11 people and leading to seven arrests, and city officials have since increased security measures + installed facial recognition technology to restore downtown liveliness.  WTOC 11
  • Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is seeking five convicted sex offenders who failed to register as required by state law—David Jerrod Corley, Jesse Jamal Williams, Charles Edward Bevins, James Edward Sowell, and Jessie Brian Sikes—and urges anyone with information to call 912-652-7653 without trying to detain them.  WTOC 11
  • Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding Ronald Crowe—an autistic man last seen Saturday night at around 9:30 p.m. walking from an Edgewater neighborhood off Old River Road with a black bag and an Xbox and urging anyone with information to call 912-754-3449.  WTOC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cinematic Scenes of Savannah is a new tour that shows film spots used in famous movies shot around town. Organized by Nicole Bukowski—who worked on local productions—the tour will offer a walking tour for families and a boat tour along the marsh to visit locations from films like Lady and the Tramp and Peanut Butter Falcon.  WSAV

  • Galen College of Nursing is accepting applications for its new Savannah campus which will offer a two-year Associate Degree in Nursing program in fall—this effort in partnership with Memorial Health aims to address Georgia’s low nurse-to-resident ratio amid a projected statewide nurse shortage.  Savannah Morning News

  • Today the Tybee Island Marine Science Center urged drivers to slow down—not stop—on Highway 80 as pregnant diamondback terrapin turtles cross toward the marsh, and loggerhead sea turtles also begin nesting on local beaches.  Savannah Business Journal
