COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Wednesday afternoon, Genesis donated $10,000 to Girls on the Run of South Georgia at Jacob G. Smith Elementary in Savannah to fund new scholarships. The donation is part of the Genesis Gives initiative which supports STEAM education and youth sports and will help more local girls join the program.  WJCL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Savannah’s Small Business Assistance Corporation is offering free workshops for small business owners during National Small Business Month. The sessions run on Wednesdays from June 4 to July 9 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at 111 Liberty Street and feature SBAC experts who will discuss topics such as branding, operations, cash flow, artificial intelligence, and legal compliance—providing practical strategies for growth.  WSAV

CRIME NEWS

  • Thirty gang members and associates of the Sex, Money, Murder gang—a Bloods affiliate—were indicted on charges of racketeering, murder, drug trafficking and fraud after a four-year investigation, with arrests made on May 14 in Savannah, Hinesville and other areas.  Savannah Morning News
  • Savannah police are searching for 3-year-old Leilani Elliot, taken without permission during a supervised visit in the 900 block of Wheaton Street—she may be with Jessy Elliot who was seen heading toward East Broad Street at 10:45 a.m.—and they ask anyone who sees them to call 911.  WJCL
  • Police reached the 1300 block of Kenneth Dunham Street at 10:15 p.m. on May 14 after a ShotSpotter alert led them to a car where an adult man had died from gunshot wounds—this was the tenth homicide in Savannah in 2025.  Savannah Morning News
  • The U.S. Attorney’s Office charged 30 gang members and associates with racketeering, murder, drug trafficking fraud, and firearm charges linked to the Sex Money Murder gang—officials say the indictment includes a 19-year-old murder and has led to arrests in Hinesville, Savannah, Augusta, and Atlanta while investigators continue to search for a dangerous suspect in the Savannah-Hinesville area.  WTOC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • PBS filmed over 100 appraisals at the Georgia State Railroad Museum in April as part of Antiques Roadshow's 30th anniversary season that will air in 2026. Over 2,300 locals brought their family treasures for a rare look at items like a 1992 tapestry appraised at up to $250,000 — a highlight of the show's second visit to Savannah.  GPB News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hyundai and Savannah Tech have partnered to launch an Advanced Manufacturing Maintenance Apprenticeship that will give students classroom instruction and hands-on training at HMGMA to meet a need for skilled technicians. The 18-month program begins in June with eight open slots where apprentices will earn a diploma, college credits, and benefits—about 50 applicants have shown interest so far.  Savannah Morning News
