  • Senior Citizens Inc. (SCI) celebrated its 65th anniversary on Thursday at The Palmetto Club at The Landings and honored community legends including Dr. Otis S. Johnson, educator Camille O’Neill and veteran John A. White, Sr. Patti Lyons (president of SCI) said the honorees show the nonprofit's focus on helping people age well in Savannah.  WSAV
  • The National Association of Letter Carriers holds its 33rd Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive today—asking residents to leave non-perishable food in a bag by their mailbox for donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank—and it has collected nearly 1.9 billion pounds of food in over 30 years to help those in need.  WJCL

  • Travelers flying out of Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport face flight cancellations due to FAA staffing shortages in Newark that limit flight numbers. Nathan James and Christina Van Lenten received texts more than a week ahead—United Airlines has offered refunds—so passengers are advised to contact their airlines for rebooking.  WJCL
  • Business leaders in Savannah kicked off Shop Small Weekend Friday to ask residents to support local boutiques and restaurants as part of the Downtown Business Association's Small Business Week. They said small shops drive hiring at big businesses — a call to help strengthen the local economy.  WJCL

  • Savannah Police warn that card skimming devices have been found on ATMs, gas stations and drugstores — criminals install fake keypads and card readers in seconds, so residents should check machines carefully before using them.  WJCL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Savannah State University held its ceremonial pinning ceremony on Thursday for more than 150 spring graduates who earned bachelor's and master's degrees and joined the National Alumni Association. More than 100 alumni participated — former alumna Vannessa Miller Kaigler delivered the keynote address.  WSAV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Severe weather from the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry has disrupted flights at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, causing delays and diversions since yesterday. Officials advise passengers to check updated flight statuses before traveling+ weather may continue to affect schedules.  WTOC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Savannah firefighters are asking the city to adopt Title 25 into an ordinance so they can bargain for better work conditions—this code, used for fire safety since the 1970s, follows Atlanta’s recent move and needs support from the city council. Johnny Hilton of the union said the change is needed to help firefighters who work long hours away from home.  WTOC 11
