  • The Globe landmark on White Bluff Road, created in 1956 by Ted Turner's father Ed Turner with Savannah Gas Co, remains a cherished icon thanks to local advocates and Parker's CEO Greg Parker, who preserved the painted gas tank as a gateway for generations in Savannah.  WJCL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Breeze Airways has launched nonstop flights from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport to Akron-Canton & Fort Lauderdale, beginning this week on Sundays and Thursdays with introductory fares of $64 and $49 respectively. The Fort Lauderdale schedule will shift to Wednesdays and Saturdays in July.  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The AirPower History Tour brings WWII-era planes, including the B-29 'FIFI', to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until May 10. Cockpit tours and scheduled flights on Saturday and Sunday let visitors explore the historic aircraft up close.  WJCL
  • Tomorrow, May 9, HONEYJOON, a film exploring the mother-daughter bond through grief + humor, debuts at CinemaSavannah on Montgomery St at 7 p.m. Families can enjoy this special screening as part of Mother's Day weekend events.  Savannah Morning News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Kemp signed education bills Monday that include a $70M literacy plan to hire 1,300 coaches & a rule making kindergarten required before first grade. The laws also mandate 60 minutes of math per day and set device restrictions for high school students next school year.  WJCL

  • A Savannah nurse was recognized during National Nurses Week for saving a patient's life, highlighting local support for healthcare professionals in critical moments.  WTOC 11
  • Two Georgia residents who returned from the MV Hondius cruise ship are being monitored for hantavirus and are not showing symptoms while following CDC guidelines. The Georgia Department of Public Health is keeping a close watch on their condition.  WJCL

  • Former Jenkins High standout Chaz Sutton will lead Nike Football Skills Camp for boys and girls ages 8 to 13 in Savannah from June 8-10. The day camp runs Monday to Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with combine style testing, non contact drills & personal coaching.  WJCL
