CULTURE NEWS

  • Tybee City Council signed a proclamation on April 24 naming May 3 as the 500th Anniversary of Tybee Island's discovery — when Spanish explorer Pedro de Quejos and his crew landed on May 3, 1525, marking one of the earliest European arrivals to the area.  WTOC 11

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Georgia Southern University's Economic Monitor update showed that the Savannah region's unemployment rate fell to 2.9% in Q4 from 3.4% amid a rebound from hurricane-related job losses—recording gains in tourism, port activity and retail sales—and the report predicted that economic growth will slow in early 2025.  Savannah Morning News
