- ➤ Savannah will celebrate Small Business Week 2025 from May 4 through May 9 — a week featuring a small business mixer, a mayor’s conference on May 7, and a GRIT pitch competition offering a $5,000 prize — as local leaders urge residents to shop, dine, and support local businesses year-round. WSAV

- ➤ The 47th Annual Savannah Scottish Games—taking place tomorrow at Bethesda Academy—will feature Celtic competitions, Scottish foods, and live music, with events running from 8:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Bynuh's Field in Savannah. WJCL
- ➤ TEDxSavannah will feature 12 local speakers and live music by local musicians on Friday, May 16 at the Fine Arts Auditorium at Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus — doors will open at 8 a.m. and the event will run until 2 p.m. Savannah Business Journal

- ➤ Georgia Ports Authority's Ocean Terminal in Savannah doubled its weekly container ship calls from 2 to 4 starting May 1, cutting waiting times to an average of 6 hours at the lay berth. The port said it expects faster cargo operations when the new lay berth goes into service May 15 and further renovations will be finished by June 2026. WTOC 11
- ➤ Georgia Ports Authority marked 80 years at its trade conference where CEO Griff Lynch said port container numbers rose 784 percent to 5.6 million TEUs and the authority will spend 4.5 billion dollars to add capacity. More than 400 business leaders met and plans include a new 1,650-foot lay berth at Ocean Terminal opening in May — a move expected to boost capacity to 7.5 million TEUs by 2030 and 9 million by 2035. - ➤ Groves High School in Savannah is receiving a new CPR kit and AED resource to help students learn how to respond during a medical emergency. The donation, from the American Heart Association + Landmark 24 Homes, supports the state requirement for CPR training. WTOC 11

- ➤ Governor Brian Kemp signed 29 bills into law yesterday at the Savannah Convention Center— including measures protecting a woman's right to in vitro fertilization and honoring the Original 33 Black lawmakers elected in 1868; local lawmakers and business leaders attended the ceremony. The Current
- ➤ Officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday to mark the completion of the Savannah Convention Center’s $276 million expansion, which ended a decade-long project and is expected to boost business and leisure travel in Coastal Georgia—its doubled space hosted its first event in early February with the Nike Savannah Showdown volleyball tournament and now has 106 events booked through 2030. - ➤ Before today, people with disabilities in Georgia could be paid below minimum wage—Governor Brian Kemp signed the Dignity and Pay Act in Savannah to ensure they receive at least the minimum wage.
