COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Savannah’s 'Summer 500' program returns this summer with fresh events planned across the city - local organizers say the lineup will boost community spirit and spotlight homegrown talent.  WTOC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • The African Art Museum is welcoming two new exhibits today with a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m.—the exhibits include a permanent gallery showcasing art from West and Central Africa that explores connections between agriculture, spirituality and daily life. Public entry is free until 8 p.m.  WJCL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fourteen Savannah firefighters, including Chief of Special Operations Scott Boyd, returned home last Thursday after helping contain a wildfire in Brantley County, where they saved over 100 homes. Savannah Fire remains in the area & will swap crews if conditions worsen.  WTOC 11
  • Former President Biden endorsed Keisha Lance Bottoms for governor at 5:08 a.m. today via video (she served as Atlanta mayor and senior advisor) and affirmed her plan to lower health care costs and expand education ahead of Georgia’s primary in 18 days.  Savannah Morning News
  • Georgia officials rolled out the 'Look Again' campaign to remind drivers to check back seats before leaving their vehicles (a new safety drive aimed at avoiding tragedies) as part of ongoing efforts to protect children and pets.  WTOC 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Negotiations between Cigna and Memorial Health continue as they have yet to agree on in-network rates, which may force patients to face higher costs or switch providers. Memorial Health stresses that care remains uninterrupted while Cigna notifies members to review their coverage.  WTOC 11

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Massa Gaelle Fokou plans to renovate the former Chinese restaurant at 205 S. Coastal Highway in Port Wentworth into The Massa Center (a mixed-use facility that will include retail, office, take-out, and residential studios). Discussion is set at a public hearing on May 4.  Savannah Morning News
  • Today, Hodgeville Road in Guyton is changing fast as new warehouses and housing subdivisions boost traffic and push plans for roundabouts to ease congestion (residents say the shift alters the road’s once rural feel).  Savannah Morning News

  • Savannah’s Historic Grayson Stadium (built in 1926) celebrated its 100th anniversary in April, marking a century of hosting renowned baseball players and fans. The Bananas have modernized the venue while keeping its historic charm for local sports lovers.  Savannah Morning News
