- ➤ The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society hosts its 17th Annual Night of Champions and Hiring Expo today at the Savannah Marriott Riverfront Hotel — the event includes a cocktail hour, job expo, dinner and a recognition ceremony honoring local businesses that offer inclusive employment. WJCL
- ➤ Goodr and Amazon hosted a ribbon-cutting event on April 21 to launch a free grocery store at Savannah State University (located in Adams Hall at 3219 College Street) that offers year-round access to fresh produce, shelf-stable staples, and household essentials with nearby parking available. - ➤ Augusta University and state officials broke ground on the campus (Georgia Southern Armstrong Campus) for a new dental school in Savannah, signaling a major step in expanding local dental education. Construction is expected to begin soon. Savannah Morning News
- ➤ Dr. DeRetta Cole Rhodes, Executive Vice President and Chief Culture Officer for the Atlanta Braves, will deliver the keynote address at Savannah State University's spring 2026 commencement on Friday, May 8 at 1 p.m. at the Enmarket Arena, where more than 390 graduates will be honored. - ➤ Live Oak Public Library executive director Lola DeWitt was elected to a three-year term as director-at-large for the Public Library Association board during a Minneapolis conference.
