  • Healthy Savannah’s Faith and Health Coalition will host a free Faith Walk to celebrate health and wellness at Lake Mayer pavilions — 1850 E. Montgomery Cross Rd. The walk runs from 4 to 6:30 p.m. this Sunday and invites community members to join in the springtime event.  WSAV

CRIME NEWS

  • Three men have been indicted on charges including malice murder and felony murder for fatally shooting 21-year-old Keontae Grider outside his car at an Amazon warehouse in Pooler on January 13—two remain at large while authorities investigate the alleged theft of his backpack.  WTOC 11
  • Deputies on I-95 Monday night pursued a car stolen in Florida for speeding at 140 mph from Liberty County into Bryan County, using a PIT maneuver that caused the driver to crash into a guardrail—he then attempted to flee but was captured while both he and his passenger were taken to the hospital, and traffic was backed up for nearly an hour.  WJCL
  • A federal inmate, Jerrell Antonio Roberts, and two Savannah residents, Antoinette Tyeisha Ricks and Tyree O’Bryant Russell, pleaded guilty to smuggling methamphetamine into a federal prison in South Carolina and were sentenced to prison terms of 110, 39 and 24 months respectively—each sentence followed by three years of court-ordered supervision.  WTOC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Neighborhood Comics in Savannah will host Free Comic Book Day on May 3, offering over 50 comic titles and allowing each visitor to take 5 books—with the option to select 10 by donating gently used men's clothing—Neighborhood Comics owner Lee Heidel said.  WSAV
  • SCAD students and alumni will turn Tybee Island’s South Beach into a one-day sculpture gallery at the SCAD Sand Arts Festival Friday at the South Beach Pier and Pavilion from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.—the event will feature competitions in Sandcastle, Sand Relief, Sand Jam and SCAD Spirit and marks its 23rd year.  WSAV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tuesday, Chatham Area Transit leaders met at 4 p.m. at the CAT Central office on East Gwinnett Street to review fiscal year 2026 requests and discuss modernizing public transit to meet local needs—rising costs from the COVID pandemic and the upcoming end of free K-12 rides on May 31 were key issues raised. The meeting set the stage for future improvements to support riders and employees.  WTOC 11
  • Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed three workforce development bills on Monday during a leadership summit sponsored by the Technical College System of Georgia — the measures extend a program for technical college students to earn a high school diploma, allow sponsors to fund apprenticeship programs, and create an adult workforce high school diploma program.  Savannah Morning News
