COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Coastal Children’s Advocacy Center celebrated the reopening of its Hispanic Outreach and Counseling Center for free child abuse services while upcoming events include ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the Savannah Paranormal Museum on May 1, Bentley’s Pet Stuff and Buffalo Wild Wings on May 2, and other community celebrations through May 28. Residents are encouraged to attend these events around Savannah to experience new services and business openings.  Savannah Chamber of Commerce

CRIME NEWS

  • Savannah Police are searching for missing 16-year-old Love Thomas—she was last seen at around 2:00 p.m. on April 28th in the 1800 block of Benton Boulevard.  WTOC 11
  • On Wilmington Island, a grand jury indicted 17-year-old Nicholas Holbrook on charges of two counts of first-degree burglary, four counts of first-degree arson, and one count of second-degree criminal damage to property—charges linked to multiple fires started between late November and January.  WTOC 11
  • Savannah police are looking for missing 12-year-old Camille Green, who was last seen on April 26 in the 800 block of West 42nd St—she is 5′1″, weighs 110 lbs, has brown eyes, an afro hairstyle, and a small nose ring and anyone with information is urged to call 911.  WTOC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Savannah native Big Boi of Outkast is one of seven new inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—one of two Georgians honored this year. The induction ceremony will be held on Nov. 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.  Savannah Morning News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rice Creek Elementary School was placed on precautionary lockdown today after Campus Police were alerted to a suspicious package near the building, and Port Wentworth Police investigated across the street while teaching continued with some students moved to the gym (according to the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System).  WTOC 11
  • Vandan Patel, a 7 year old first grader at Savannah Country Day School, was accepted into Mensa this week for his high intelligence and love of learning — he dreams of joining NASA while his teacher and family praised his creative and humble nature.  WJCL
  • Brandi Allen, a longtime elementary and middle school teacher, began her first year teaching high school at Richmond Hill High School and says she loves sharing lessons on basic skills like cursive writing and public reading. She builds strong bonds with her students by posting inspirational quotes while coaching the women’s soccer team with her husband — Shawn Allen.  WJCL
