GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Savannah City Council approved a zoning map that relaxes density restrictions over a 440-acre overlay district in Thomas Square, Metropolitan, and part of the Victorian area to spur duplex and apartment projects with rents capped at 30% of household income—an effort to help alleviate cost burdens and curb corporate buyouts. City officials said the plan allows developers to apply for design exceptions with reduced lot sizes and may later expand to include other neighborhoods.  The Current
  • Federal aid cuts have forced CASA Savannah to immediately reduce its budget by $110K, leading to the termination of a staff position and a pilot program that served 300 foster children in the juvenile court system. CASA Glynn, which serves 400 children in five coastal counties, could see a gradual loss of up to $100K while local advocates urge representatives to contact the DOJ—efforts that may shape future support for these programs.  The Current
