- ➤ Savannah State University raised over $400,000 for student scholarships during its 27th Annual Scholarship Gala Saturday at the Convention Center’s Governor’s Ballroom—celebrating Dr. Jermaine Whirl’s investiture as president while awarding five scholars and featuring a special $10,000 donation from Whirl and his wife. - ➤ Wildfires forced evacuations and destroyed homes in Brantley County, prompting officials to impose a 30-day burn ban across more than 90 southern counties. Gov.
