- ➤ A local gas station chain, Parker’s Kitchen, earned four awards — for Corporate Philanthropy, Food Service Technology and Community Impact — that highlight its strong support for Savannah. Founder Greg Parker said the recognition shows his team's commitment to giving back to the community. WTOC 11

- ➤ On Tuesday, authorities from the Bryan County sheriff’s office resumed searching for the 55-year-old construction worker Jose Garcia Hernandez after he fell into the Ogeechee River over a week ago—using a cadaver dog and dive team to check near the I-95 bridge. WTOC 11
- ➤ Crews responded to a warehouse fire in downtown Savannah at President Street and General McIntosh Boulevard on April 15 — Savannah Police closed east and westbound traffic on President Street between Randolph Street and the Truman Parkway and urged drivers to avoid the area. WJCL
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Vidalia sweet onions began shipping to stores nationwide on April 15th—after the Georgia Agriculture Commission named that day as Packing Day—allowing growers from 20 counties to deliver the hand-planted crop. John Schuman, CEO of Shuman Farms, said the 12-month process started last summer and the onions, which earn over $120 million for the state, will be available until the end of summer. WJCL

- ➤ FEMA cut $30 million from a grant that was to fund $45 million in improvements to fix flooding and drainage issues along the Springfield Canal in Carver Village and Cloverdale. Mayor Van Johnson said the loss means local taxpayers will have to cover the cost and that city officials have reached out to Congressman Buddy Carter, Senator Raphael Warnock and Senator Jon Ossoff for help. - ➤ Due to Hurricane Helene, the IRS extended the tax filing deadline for residents in the Carolinas and Georgia until May 1 — no extra paperwork is needed and interest or fees for late payments will not accrue during the extension. WSAV
- ➤ The City of Savannah announced a series of community engagement meetings in late April to gather resident input on the proposed Stormwater Utility. The meetings will be held in each Aldermanic District from April 21—April 30 at 6 p.m. Savannah Business Journal
- ➤ Georgia DOT is building improvements on Highway 280 near the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America as part of a $184 million project—$83 million of which will widen the highway with five roundabouts. Four roundabouts are set to be finished this summer and the fifth will shift into configuration in Q4 while drivers are urged to slow down and remain alert in the construction zone.
