- ➤ It has been one week since the bridge painter fell into the Ogeechee River and agencies have searched the water with the Bryan County Sheriff planning to use cadaver canines and block boat traffic between Highway 17 and I-95 starting on Monday to keep the water still—if his team does not find the body soon, they may call off the search this weekend. - ➤ A fugitive who had evaded capture during a multinational, years-long manhunt was captured today in Savannah by law enforcement—officials say his arrest ends a prolonged search. WTOC 11
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Orange Crush will run from Friday, April 18 to Sunday, April 20 with its main event on Tybee Island near the beach pier — the festival features live music, DJ's, and a car/bike show with additional events in Hardeeville and Savannah. The event started in 1988 as a Savannah State University student gathering and took its name from the school color and the Crush soft drink brand — though it is not sponsored by that company. - ➤ Following FEMA’s disaster declaration after Hurricane Helene last fall, the IRS and Georgia’s Department of Revenue extended the tax filing deadline from today to May 1 for 2024 taxes (taxpayers needing extra time until October 15 must request it). GPB News
