- ➤ The Savannah Harbor Innovation Partnership announced its formation to build a new innovation ecosystem in the harbor region that will support local entrepreneurs and attract marquee companies. The group builds on the Savannah Logistics Innovation Center’s work and will work with local research and business experts — including Georgia Southern University and VentureSouth—to boost key industry areas. - ➤ The Tybee Island Police Department released cell phone video showing a man strangling a dog with a leash for about 7 seconds at a dog park on April 5 and breaking fence slats to pull the dog through a hole before leaving in a white utility van with four other dogs—police described the suspects as two white men and are asking anyone with information to come forward. - ➤ On March 18, 60-year-old Darren Lewis was fatally struck on Liberty Parkway when a suspect fleeing Savannah Police in a high-speed chase hit his vehicle—his family is now pushing for a new Darren Lewis Law and will decide on legal action after the investigation. WJCL
- ➤ Tybee Island Police are searching for two men in a white utility van with five dogs after reports that one man strangled a dog at a local dog park on Saturday and then rounded up four others—officers are urging anyone with information to come forward. WTOC 11
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Savannah schools end by May and many summer camps are filling up fast as families register for programs like Oatland Island’s day camps, City of Savannah’s Recreation camps, Savannah State University Coast Camp and STEAM sessions at Georgia Tech CEISMC. - ➤ The Big Tide Summit will return to Savannah this Friday at the Savannah Convention Center where thousands of high school students will learn about S.T.E.A.M. career paths and leadership skills.
