- ➤ Tybee Island is preparing for a busy spring break season as record visitor numbers are expected from March to mid-April — officials say travel costs will rise as many Georgians plan vacations. City leaders will add extra security and a traffic management plan for the Orange Crush event on April 19 — the festival may draw up to 50,000 people. WSAV
- ➤ Tybee officials are boosting beach safety after three drownings in 2024 by practicing ocean rescue techniques, installing a new flag, and hiring lifeguards. They warn beach goers to be extra cautious near the north end—where ship wakes sometimes form large waves that can knock people off their feet. WSAV

- ➤ A fatal shooting on Tatem Street Saturday night left one man dead near Haven Elementary School, marking Savannah’s ninth fatal crime this year—officials have increased police presence and deployed advanced technology with a press conference set for today. WJCL
- ➤ A grand jury indicted two men in connection to a shooting on Waters Avenue from January 4 that left one man injured—Leonard Cooper is charged with aggravated assault and gun-related offenses while Charles Black faces charges for tampering with evidence and cocaine possession. WTOC 11

- ➤ The Port of Savannah handled 534,000 TEUs in March—its second record month—driven by returning West Coast cargo and customers front-loading to avoid new tariffs. - ➤ FEMA cut the $30 million flood grant for Savannah on Friday that was meant for flood protection projects after $2.9 million had been spent on design work. City officials have scheduled meetings with federal representatives as they worry that local taxpayers will face extra costs to cover the funding gap amid the upcoming hurricane season. WJCL

- ➤ Johnsonville recalled about 22,672 pounds of cheddar bratwurst packaged in 19-ounce packs made on Feb. 5 — the recall covers sausage from 10 states, including our area — after consumers found hard plastic in the product.
