- ➤ The City of Savannah announced that a new community center will be built at 218 Windsor Road, the former Woody’s Skate Park, to serve as a public space for community activities and recreation. - ➤ Two adults and two children were taken to the hospital on Wednesday night after an apartment fire began in a kitchen at a building on Queen Ann Court in Savannah, and officials said five adults and four minors were displaced. WJCL
- ➤ A crash on Highway 17 and Highway 80 in Bloomingdale involving two dump trucks shut down the area and claimed a life—officials urged drivers to exercise caution. WTOC 11

- ➤ Deputies arrested two adults and three juveniles after multiple car break-ins in the Auriga Farms and Park West area as community tips and surveillance footage led to their capture — Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie urged residents to remove valuables and lock their vehicles. Savannah Morning News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The World Meteorological Organization retired three hurricane names—Beryl, Helene, and Milton—after they caused severe damage during the 2024 season, with Helene bringing strong winds and power outages in Savannah and the Lowcountry. Brianna, Holly, and Miguel will replace these names on future lists as the community prepares for the 2025 hurricane season. WJCL

- ➤ On Thursday, Lithuania held a farewell ceremony to honor four U.S. Army soldiers from Fort Stewart who died during a training mission near Pabradė. Their bodies will return to the U.S. soon (the investigation may take up to one year). WJCL
- ➤ On Wednesday, the Georgia Senate passed House Bill 397 and Senate Bill 214 that give the State Election Board new rulemaking powers and allow voters to request hand-marked paper ballots while pulling Georgia out of a multi-state voter database system—shifting the state away from a fully electronic voting process.
