  • The 100 Black Men of Savannah, Inc. announced their Grand Scholarship Gala will be held Saturday, April 26 at the Savannah Riverfront Marriott—funds raised will support scholarships and programs.  WSAV

CRIME NEWS

  • The Savannah Pride Center is calling on police to investigate the fatal shooting of 27-year-old volunteer Chris Allen Villegas-Fentress as a hate crime after he was shot in a Dollar General on West Bay Street on March 15 — a community vigil is planned for Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Forsyth Park Bandshell.  WJCL
  • The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help locating five individuals wanted for failing to register as sex offenders—43-year-old Christopher Graves seen near Highway 17, 22-year-old Jeremiah Scott-Kollman last seen near Abercorn Street and Harry S. Truman Parkway, 32-year-old Vencen Bentley last seen near W. 39th Street, 49-year-old Christopher Alexander seen near 357 Main Street and 41-year-old James McIvory last seen on Lincoln Street.  WTOC 11
  • Police in Savannah investigated a shooting on Sunday around 2 p.m. near the intersection of E. 32nd Lane and Waters Avenue where a gunshot victim, shot between the neck and shoulder, walked into Memorial Health University Medical Center—his injury was non-life-threatening and no arrests have been made.  WJCL

  • The museum hosted an audio postcard tour of the Savannah row house where writer Flannery O’Connor spent her first 13 years, as March 25 marked her 100th birthday. Executive director Janie Bragg led the tour and explained how her experiences during the Great Depression helped shape her unique style + provided historical context for her early life.  GPB News
  • Savannah Music Festival is offering a free Explorer Pass for public school students and free School Spotlight Series shows for local families—events run from March 27 through April 10 at venues around town with a flyer that outlines access details.   • Georgia Ports Authority moved more than 479,800 TEUs in February (a 6% increase from last year) as renovations were underway at its Ocean Terminal on a (200-acre site) to serve two large container ships at once; its operations supported over 609,000 jobs and generated $5.3 billion in taxes.  WTOC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Transportation is studying a passenger rail line connecting Savannah and Atlanta — it is seeking public input through online surveys and stakeholder meetings. The study will evaluate potential routes with stops in Statesboro, Dublin and Macon — GDOT will decide on funding and phased plans in 2026-2027.  Savannah Morning News
