- ➤ Parker's Kitchen has begun a round-up campaign to help local injured veterans through the Wounded Warrior Project by matching 25% of every customer donation at all locations from March 1 through July 6. - ➤ Effingham County officials expressed concern after a fire at DRT America in Springfield broke out on March 18, with heavy black smoke seen and foul odors reported; they are urging independent experts to test a nearby creek to ensure there is no contamination — following earlier incidents and unanswered questions about hazardous chemical releases. County leaders have pressed DRT to share its odor report and cooperate with further environmental investigations. Savannah Morning News

- ➤ The Chatham County District Attorney’s Office will hold a free criminal record expungement clinic on Friday, March 28 at the Southwest Branch Live Oak Library on Abercorn Street in Savannah from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Participants must bring a valid ID and meet eligibility conditions for having dismissed charges expunged. - ➤ The City of Savannah got a $972,000 grant from SCAD SERVE (announced in late February) to buy new police technology like cameras, call boxes and mapping tools. City Manager Jay Melder said the money will replace a plan for drones and add traffic control trailers and cameras to help the police fight crime. Savannah Morning News
- ➤ The Georgia Department of Transportation is gathering feedback through an online survey on a future rail line connecting Savannah and Atlanta—inviting suggestions on routes and stops such as Statesboro, Dublin and Macon. The study, funded with $8 million in federal aid and a $2 million state match, will use survey results to guide upcoming stakeholder meetings and further planning efforts. Savannah Morning News

- ➤ At Islands Stadium on Thursday night, the Islands boys soccer team defeated previously undefeated Jenkins 5-0 in a Region 3-3A match, moving the Sharks to a 9-3 overall record and 7-0 in regional play while Jenkins dropped to 9-1.
