BUSINESS NEWS

  • Target recalled over 190,000 cans of 14.5-ounce Good & Gather cut green beans from stores in Georgia and 20 other states due to potential foreign objects. The FDA issued the recall on March 13 covering 8,242 cases (lot number 7AA 418507) and the cans state best if used by Oct. 28, 2026 (Class II recall).  Savannah Morning News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Savannah man, 25-year-old Jordan Richardson, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for an armed robbery at a local grocery store in 2022 that injured two people—he must also repay $23,793 and serve five years of supervised release.  WTOC 11
  • On Tuesday, March 18th, a mass shooting at Westlake Apartments injured five people and Savannah police tracked a silver Jeep that drove erratically—crashing into a tree before colliding with a maroon Chevrolet that claimed one life while its driver, Kenneth Gordon, was apprehended.  WJCL

  • SCAD alumnus Matt Hebermehl returns on April 3 to sign posters and discuss his creative process for the Savannah Music Festival at the Festival Pop-Up Shop on Broughton Street. He has left his mark with murals across the city—adding a musical touch to Savannah's art scene.  Savannah Morning News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Savannah-Chatham School System Superintendent Denise Watts said on March 18 that the ESPLOST vote passed with 64.37% approval even though only 5.81% of eligible voters cast ballots. The 1% sales tax extension will fund school projects including Pooler's first high school + the measure was the sole item on the ballot.  Savannah Morning News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the National Hurricane Center released its 2024 Tropical Cyclone Report on Hurricane Helene, the deadliest hurricane since Katrina that caused at least 248 deaths and $78.7 billion in damages, including $5.5 billion in agriculture losses in Georgia from wind damage. The Category 4 storm made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend and produced 39 tornadoes—one of which in Wheeler County killed two people in a mobile home.  WJCL
