  • Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia celebrated their 114th birthday on March 12 at the First Headquarters on Drayton Street—a site where Juliette Gordon Low started the troop—by hosting a coffee reception, Facebook broadcast, and guided tour to honor their legacy.  The Savannah Tribune
  • United Way of the Coastal Empire hosted the Women Who Rule event at Savannah Convention Center (raising over $115,000 for the Women United Transportation Fund) and honored Swann Seiler as 2026 Woman of the Year, while a local panel discussed support for transportation needs.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Shannon McAdams will host Grandma’s Hands Gala (Juneteenth Soul & Groove Old School Concert) on June 20 at Alee Temple Shriners. Seniors from 16 centers can enjoy food, games, bingo, dancing and a performance by R&B singer Meli’sa Morgan, with tickets at $75 or $100 for full access.  The Savannah Tribune

  • Two newly opened Savannah hotels have been ranked among the South's best new hotels for 2026 by Southern Living. Hotel Bardo, built from a restored nineteenth century Victorian mansion, offers luxury amenities while The Ann Savannah provides apartment-style accommodations with full kitchens and laundry facilities.  Savannah Morning News

  • The Savannah St. Patrick's Day Parade on Tuesday, March 17 showcased local traditions as marching bands, officials, and community members celebrated with music, blessings, and colorful festivities along city streets.  Savannah Morning News
  • The National Park Service recognizes Susie King Taylor through the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom and names the nearby Susie King Taylor Freedom Park set to open in April. The park will offer a playground, walking trail, and pavilion to honor her escape and legacy — a milestone for the community.  WTOC 11

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Savannah rose to $3.77 per gallon Wednesday as a Georgia Southern University expert linked global tensions in the Iran conflict to supply delays through the Strait of Hormuz. He warned that if these delays persist, drivers may face further price hikes and farmers could see higher fertilizer costs.  WJCL
  • Georgia Ports Authority announced an expansion of cold storage at the Garden City Terminal in Savannah ahead of citrus season, adding 300,000 sqft including 4,000 sqft for inspections with imports from South Africa, Chile, and Peru expected in May and June (which will also support local agricultural exports).  GPB News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Savannah Tech students will host the 5th Annual Child Abuse and Autism Awareness Fun-Day & Walk on April 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the main campus on White Bluff Rd., with entry via Hampstead Avenue to connect local families with vital education resources.  Savannah Business Journal
  • Dr. Earl G. Yarbrough, Sr. (1946–2026) died on March 9 after serving as Savannah State University’s President from 2007 to 2011. The university said his work in higher education helped many students and enriched the community.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Live Oak Public Library has chosen Savannah-based GMSHAY Architects to design a new $11.5M library branch at Eisenhower Drive and Waters Avenue that will replace the nearly 50-year-old Oglethorpe Mall location. The project will use $5.5M local + $3M state + $3M federal funds and invite community input soon.  WTOC 11

  • Hospice Savannah has opened registration for Camp Aloha, a grief camp for children aged 6 to 17 who have lost a loved one, set to run May 1+3 at the New Ebenezer Retreat Center in Rincon and sponsored by Southern Motors with scholarships available for eligible families.  The Savannah Tribune
