All lanes on I-16 westbound were closed Saturday night as firefighters battled a car fire (near the 164 exit) and officials are investigating the cause.

Just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Effingham County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting near Parker's on Old Augusta Road — a man was fatally shot in the head while another with a gunshot injury was taken to a hospital, and the investigation remains ongoing.
