COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local faith group of about 120 gathered Saturday in Savannah to rally for ending police pursuits in school zones following a fatal incident. Protesters marched from Sanctuary Church to the Chatham County Police Department and called for policy changes at federal, state, and local levels.  WTOC 11
  • The City of Savannah will place hundreds of blue plastic port-a-potty units along the parade route for the St. Patrick’s Day celebration starting March 17 — a map with 40 locations is available to help visitors plan ahead.  Savannah Morning News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tybee Island's St. Michael's Church held an 11 a.m. Mass on Saturday to honor St. Patrick and recognize parade organizers ahead of St. Patrick's Day celebrations—Marty Hogan, the grand marshal, highlighted his Irish heritage as a source of holiday pride.  WJCL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data shows that Chatham County gained about 7,500 residents in 2023, driven by a growing port, tourism, and electric vehicle industry. The report noted that many newcomers are Millennials and Gen Z and that some bought homes in surrounding areas.  Savannah Morning News

  • Today, Tybee Island City Council voted 2+4 against establishing a local historic district in the Fort Screven and North Campbell areas to require permits for major exterior changes on historic structures.   • Therapists are moving to private practice after low pay & high education costs cause insurance companies to undervalue mental health care, a report finds that Georgia meets only 43% of its workforce needs.
