COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pat Mathis, a Savannah-based construction leader who founded her company in 1980, has been honored with NAWIC’s Trailblazer Award for her work on local projects and active roles in community organizations (including local missions and commerce groups).  The Savannah Tribune

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Savannah’s Strange Bird will reopen Friday, Mar. 13 at 1220 Barnard Street in the Victorian District after an overnight fire, while NaRobia’s Grits & Gravy, a 23-year soul food establishment, will close on March 28 as its final day of service.  Savannah Morning News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wilmington Island Presbyterian Preschool held its 35th St. Patrick’s Day Parade Tuesday with bagpipers, mounted police, a drum line, and a color guard joining in the celebration. The event honored Irish tradition and passed on culture ahead of Savannah’s main parade.  WTOC 11
  • The David Boles Foundation and the City of Richmond Hill will host the fifth annual Gullah Geechee Festival (Empowering Our Chillun’ Through Education) at J. F. Gregory Park on Saturday, Mar. 28 from noon to 6 p.m.; performers including Napoleon Wilkerson and Candice Glover will share blues and gospel sounds.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Jazz fans will attend the Savannah Music Festival’s concerts from March 25 to April 5, with acts including Pat Metheny, Stefon Harris and Blackout, and John Scofield, staged at local venues.   • A Wilmington Island preschool is hosting its 45th annual St. Patrick’s Parade on Tuesday, Mar. 17 to celebrate Irish heritage and bring local families together near the school (exact times were not provided).  WTOC 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Woodville-Tompkins Technical and Career High School junior Leilanie Singleton was named one of 21 recipients of the 2026 Georgia Youth Leadership Award and will be recognized at the Be the Inspiration Gala on Saturday, Mar. 21 at Zoo Atlanta + she is honored for her work in virtual community programs.  The Savannah Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A lane closure on Island Expressway Bridge took place yesterday (March 11), causing delays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Contractors used flaggers and a pilot vehicle to guide traffic, and GDOT urged drivers to use caution or find an alternate route.  WJCL
  • City officials will hold an alcohol regulation meeting to set safety guidelines for bars and vendors ahead of St. Patrick’s Day — a step to ensure balanced celebrations in Savannah.  WTOC 11

  • Girl Scout cookie season in Georgia is ending soon as digital orders close for delivery on March 13 + for shipped orders on March 31, so residents can grab favorites like Thin Mints and Samoas while supplies last.  Savannah Morning News
