  • Savannah State University is mourning the death of its former president, Dr. Earl Yarbrough, who led the campus with strong dedication over many years. The school shared heartfelt statements honoring his legacy.  WTOC 11

  • The UGA SBDC will host a Business Summit on Tuesday, May 5 at the Savannah Convention Center as part of Savannah Small Business Week. The event will offer keynote sessions, breakout discussions & networking for business owners and community leaders.  Savannah Chamber of Commerce
  • Heather Radtke, VP at SPEROS, was named the 2026 President of Buy Local Savannah Executive Committee on March 10 + she will lead modernization efforts and launch a Certified Local program to support independent businesses.  Savannah Business Journal
  • SPEROS celebrated 42 years of service on March 10 as it evolved from a traditional telecom provider in 1984 to a comprehensive technology firm that now supports local businesses + drives industry innovation.  Savannah Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Residents in Ardsley Park reported grave concern after a dog attack on Saturday near 48th Street left a neighborhood cat dead, prompting animal control to remove the dogs while authorities continue investigating the incident and residents call for stronger measures.  WJCL
  • Authorities in Effingham County are searching for Edward Fulton Hargroves, a 62 year old man with dementia who was last seen after 10 p.m. on March 1 on Old Augusta Road north of Fort Howard Road while driving his 2002 black Hyundai Santa Fe.  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown bars are preparing for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations from Friday through Tuesday (with possible spillover into later days). City Market businesses received large orders, including Guinness, to welcome holiday crowds.  WTOC 11
  • A new study by SIXT ranked Savannah No. 2 among cities turning green for St. Patrick’s Day, highlighting nine landmarks and nearly 580 acres of park space. The report shows Chicago ranked first — ahead of St. Paul, Tampa and Boston.  Savannah Morning News
  • Workers removed scaffolding from the Cathedral Basilica on Mar. 10 ahead of Savannah’s St. Patrick’s Day parade as preparations continue for the holiday celebration downtown.  WTOC 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Savannah State University announced Tuesday that former president Dr. Earl Glenn Yarbrough Sr. died—he led the school from 2007 to 2011 and helped build its academic programs as Georgia’s first public HBCU.  WJCL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CAT officials announced that Savannah transit will run on a modified schedule on Tuesday, March 17 for St. Patrick’s Day festivities—fixed routes will have detours, the DOT shuttle will not operate, and ferry service at City Hall Landing will be suspended. The city also sponsors zero-fare rides from 5:00 a.m. — 10 p.m.  WTOC 11
  • Transportation officials are inviting chamber members to a Virtual Public Information Open House for an I-95 expansion project open now through March 27, with plans to add lanes + new shoulders to ease traffic; detours may occur but officials will coordinate to keep hurricane evacuation routes clear.  Savannah Chamber of Commerce

HEALTH NEWS

  • Georgia restaurants received a recall advisory on March 10 that clams harvested by the Lummi Indian Business Council from Drayton Harbor, Washington (from Feb. 13 to Mar. 3) may be contaminated with norovirus and must not be served or sold.  Savannah Morning News

  • Publix Supermarkets has filed a permit to develop a new elevated grocery store at Eastern Wharf. The project will cover a 2.21-acre site, include a 28,828 sqft store (with sidewalks, parking, landscaping, and utilities), and extend Riverworks Way as a public road.  WTOC 11
