  • Savannah is planning redevelopment in the Canal District with new housing, a farmers market, and a food hall in the renovated Water Works building to expand affordable living and fresh food options.   • The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce honored local businesses and leaders by presenting the 2026 Chamber Business Awards today at Savannah State University.   • Breeze Airways announced Tuesday it will add nonstop flights from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport to Columbus, Ohio, and launch a one-stop BreezeThru to Portland, Maine, with new routes and expanded Savannah-Fort Lauderdale service set to begin July 1, offering introductory one-way fares starting at $59.  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Live Oak Public Libraries opened the reimagined Carnegie Library as a heritage center with special collections on the city's Black history. The center helps preserve local stories and offers educational resources for the community.  Savannah Morning News
  • Filmmakers from the coast can submit entries for the Golden Isles Film Festival, scheduled Oct. 22 to 25 at various venues on the islands (local filmmakers get a 20% discount), and festival director Rebecca Newman said the event will offer networking panels and screenings to boost regional talent.  WTOC 11
  • Savannah’s 202nd St. Patrick’s Day parade is set for March 17 (10:15 a.m.) as organizers coordinate safety measures and invite early arrivals, while Forsyth Park will host the Greening of the Fountain on March 6 to kick off festivities.  WTOC 11

  • Today, a high pressure system keeps Savannah sunny and cool with a high near 54 while lighter winds prevail. Temperatures will warm later this week with mid-60s to 70s expected and scattered showers may arrive Friday.  WJCL
  • Residents are watching new solar farms that may offer local jobs but spark debate over land use. Projects ranging from community investments to large utility developments will boost clean energy and reduce fossil fuel reliance — a shift that local leaders are monitoring.  WJCL
  • A SmileHub study released last week shows Georgia ranked No. 46 in wildlife protection, making it the 5th worst state based on 17 metrics. The report notes that over 600 at-risk species lack legal safeguards + calls for stronger conservation efforts.  Savannah Morning News

  • Residents near Daffin Park have rallied against a $3 million plan to install three 100-foot lights on the park’s historic south lawn, citing safety and wildlife concerns + the design being too large for youth football practices; Mayor Van Johnson said the project will proceed as planned.  WTOC 11

  • On Feb. 24, the Georgia Department of Public Health confirmed a second measles case in Bryan County. Officials are notifying people who might have been exposed (the first case was tied to international travel) to help control the spread.  Savannah Morning News
