  • Today at 5:30 p.m., runners will gather at Brunswick City Hall for the Fifth Annual Ahmaud Arbery Memorial Run to honor his legacy & continue a movement for justice along Georgia’s coast.  Savannah Morning News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Late Sunday evening, a grass fire forced a temporary closure of the runway at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, delaying arriving flights until emergency crews controlled the blaze and the airfield resumed operations 50 minutes later.  Savannah Morning News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Martin S. Hogan, a local trucking worker, was chosen as Grand Marshal for Savannah’s 202nd St. Patrick’s Day parade on Sunday at Benedictine Military School. He said he will focus on faith (not just mischief) and welcome visitors to the celebration next month.  WJCL
  • The renovated Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary Ocean Discovery Center at 340 MLK Jr. Blvd in Savannah reopens after a $1 million upgrade featuring immersive shows like VR and manmade reefs — a block party will be held on Feb. 28 to celebrate the reopening.  Savannah Morning News

  • The Matthew Reardon Center for Autism (MRCA) is launching its Together We Thrive workshop series to support individuals with autism and caregivers. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays in March, April, and May at Saint Francis of Cabrini Catholic Church Parish Hall, beginning Tuesday, March 3 at 12 p.m.  Savannah Business Journal

  • Birds Georgia received two conservation grants from the Georgia Ornithological Society today to fund dune stabilization & grassland restoration on Jekyll Island and to implement the updated Bird Island Rule with Manomet Conservation Sciences and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.  Savannah Business Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bob Siemer, a 70-year-old heart disease survivor, underwent a groundbreaking stent procedure at Christ Hospital yesterday after doctors said further surgery was impossible; the new technique restored his heart function and allowed him to go hiking soon after the procedure (as reported in a leading medical journal).  WJCL

  • Henderson Park and Green Room Partners acquired Pointe Grand today in the Port Wentworth area of Savannah—a 288-unit garden-style community built in 2021 on 36 acres.
