  • Effingham County High School senior Payton Brownley is hosting the second annual Payton’s Prom Closet today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the school’s gym (offering free prom dresses in sizes 00 to 24 on a first-come basis).  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The historic Carnegie Library reopened Friday, Feb.20 with a reimagined purpose (featuring new meeting spaces and updated resources) to better serve local residents.  WTOC 11
  • A ground-penetrating radar survey in Whitefield Square confirmed over 80 potential burial anomalies from a historic cemetery for enslaved and free people of color, and city officials plan to install a marker & form an advisory group for further review.  WTOC 11

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Visit Savannah marks its 50th year, continuing the mission begun in 1976 to invite travelers off I-95 and boost local tourism. The agency supports 27,000 jobs, fuels $4 billion in annual spending, and enriches community amenities.  Savannah Chamber of Commerce

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Feb. 20, 22 students from 20 schools were honored at a luncheon by the Kiwanis Club of Savannah, where STAR plaques celebrated academic achievements — overall winner Ally Park will now advance to the state competition.  Savannah Morning News

  • Today, showers and thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m. in Savannah (gusty winds over 50 mph may occur) as a squall line moves through; temperatures will peak in the low 80s before a cold front brings cooler weather Sunday.  WJCL

  • Just one block from Fort Stewart, the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Centerstone celebrated its one-year anniversary in Hinesville, led by Army veteran Scarlett Chancey.
