  • Rev. Michael Chaney of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany offered ashes to go outside a downtown coffee shop on Feb. 18, 2026, so passersby could mark Ash Wednesday without attending a full service; the tradition reminded people that life is transitory.  Savannah Morning News
  • Funeral services for Otis Jerome Brock, Jr. were held on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Conner’s Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah — the late educator, coach, and military man is remembered for guiding students and community members to success.  The Savannah Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historic Christ Church Episcopal on Johnson Square is set to present the South Georgia premiere of Considering Matthew Shepard (a modern-day Passion oratorio) on Friday, Mar. 13 at 7:00 p.m. Local chamber choir Musica Atlantica, founded by director George Fergus in 2022, will perform the work for free with ticket reservations requested.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Coastal Heritage Society is hosting its annual 'Art and Oysters' fundraiser on Thursday, March 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Pin Point Heritage Museum, 9924 Pin Point Avenue, where local art, local cuisine, and a silent auction will celebrate the Gullah-Geechee heritage while benefiting education and preservation efforts.  Savannah Business Journal
  • The Savannah Branch NAACP will host historians Vaughnette Goode-Walker and Dr. Otis S.   • CEA is launching a five-year Literacy Moonshot in Chatham County after learning effective practices at the Moonshot Indian River conference in Vero Beach; the initiative partners with Savannah-Chatham County Public School System & local groups to improve third-grade reading proficiency.  Savannah Chamber of Commerce

  • Mayor Van Johnson advised locals and visitors to sign up for safety alerts by texting CEMA (77295) for updates on St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. The parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. at the Cathedral as law enforcement prepares for a secure event.  WTOC 11
