COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Southeast Georgia Leadership Forum will present the 2026 Legacy Leader Awards to Kay Ford and Greg Parker plus the Emerging Leader Award to Kendria Lee on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Kehoe Iron Works in Savannah. Major sponsors include Georgia Power, Georgia Southern University, Metro Market Media and Morris Multimedia.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Savannah Downtown Business Association will host Carver State Bank’s ‘Road to 100 Years’ business event for Black History Month on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7110 Skidaway Road (admission is $25 for members and $35 for non-members).  The Savannah Tribune
  • On Jan. 29, 2026, nearly 90 volunteers from CSAH conducted Savannah’s annual Point-in-Time count in freezing conditions to gather data that helps federal and local agencies plan resources (following previous counts showing lower numbers of unsheltered citizens).  The Current
  • One Love Animal Rescue will host Savannah’s first cat convention, WhiskerCon Savannah, at the Valley of Savannah Scottish Rite from Feb. 14-15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature experts like Hannah Shaw and Sterling Davis who will advise families on kitten care and TNR methods.  Savannah Business Journal
  • International Free and Accepted Modern Masons, Inc. and Order of the Eastern Star Ruby Chapter 213 are hosting a Black History Celebration on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 4:00 p.m. at 2401 Elgin St. in Savannah (honoring past achievements and shaping future progress).  The Savannah Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Live Oak Public Library will host a free screening of the film 'Are You a Librarian?' at the Southwest Chatham Branch on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. & a conversation with director Rodney Freeman will follow as part of the Black History Month events.  The Savannah Tribune
  • SCAD returns with its fifth season of BAM! A Celebration of Black Artists in Music concert series. The show features performers (including Avery Wilson, Amber Iman, and Candice Glover) and will pay tribute to the rich legacy of Black music and its cultural impact.  The Savannah Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brenda Trudell-Bell, a Savannah native and first Black research chemist at Eli Lilly, was honored by the U.S. District Court Southern District of Indiana for her breakthrough work in anti-malaria drugs and antibiotics research. She founded KHEM-SCI Research (a nutraceutical company for children’s health) and mentors local youth in science.  The Savannah Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ambassador Victor Emmanuel Smith visited Savannah last week to boost trade and investment ties during the Greater Savannah Ghana Business Forum hosted with WTCSav, the Greater Savannah Ghana Alliance and city officials. He toured Gulfstream Aerospace, Georgia Ports Authority and Savannah State University as he discussed potential partnerships.  The Savannah Tribune

  • On Sunday, Feb. 23, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Sheriff Richard Coleman & the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office will host a Prescription Drug Take Back Event at Frank Murray Community Center in Savannah to ensure safe disposal of prescription drugs.  The Savannah Tribune
