- ➤ Fire trucks responded Friday morning when SCAD Oglethorpe House, beside the Savannah Civic Center, was evacuated after a fire alarm went off due to cooking on the first floor (students gathered nearby and officials confirmed the scene is now clear). WJCL
- ➤ Fernando Foster is the new president at 100 Black Men of Savannah after 15 years as vice president. He will boost the 100 Reads literacy program, and the group hosts its Community Health and Well-Being Fair today (part of the Savannah Black Heritage Festival). WTOC 11
- ➤ Young talent shone in Savannah Friday night as children (from Frank Callen Boys and Girls Club) teamed with top local chefs at the third annual Big Chef Little Chef fundraiser. The blue team won the People’s Choice Award by drawing the most marbles. WJCL

- ➤ On Feb. 6, World Trade Center Savannah called for nominations for its International Business of the Year Award — an honor for companies that excel in global trade and create quality jobs. Savannah Business Journal

- ➤ Savannah leaders are renaming Calhoun Square to Taylor Square to honor Susie King Taylor, the first African American woman to openly serve with the U.S. Army during the Civil War. Taylor worked as a nurse, teacher & laundress for black troops and later published her memoir to document her service. WJCL
- ➤ Savannah officials and business leaders are preparing for a busy St. Patrick’s Day weekend on Broughton Street with increased patrols and street closures (125 water barricades are in place along the parade route). City parking garages will offer pre-sale parking passes to manage downtown traffic. WJCL
- ➤ WJCL 22 News is featuring a profile on Matthew Henson, the first African American to reach the North Pole in 1909—he was key to the expedition with his navigation and survival skills and only gained recognition decades later. WJCL
- ➤ Savannah is set to host its first cat convention, WhiskerCon Savannah, this Valentine’s weekend at the Valley of Savannah Scottish Rite on 3001 Chatham Center Dr. Organized by One Love Animal Rescue, the event will offer expert talks+ interactive activities for families along with vendor booths for cat products.
