- ➤ WSAV-TV marks 70 years on the air with special programs like a one-hour retrospective aired Jan. 31 and alumni luncheons at its Victory Drive studios. The station will host live newscasts from local festivals and a public celebration this spring (honoring its legacy and community ties). The Savannah Tribune
- ➤ Mary Arocha was promoted to Chief Operating Officer at YMCA of Coastal Georgia on Feb. 4—after serving as Interim COO for six months. CEO Joel Smoker said her local expertise and strong community ties position her well to lead the organization. Savannah Business Journal

- ➤ Telfair Academy will host a reception at 6 p.m. today before opening the restored Walter and Linda Evans Gallery of African American Art tomorrow — featuring 28 donated works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries that highlight a historic shift in the museum’s storytelling. - ➤ The Georgia Historical Society is hosting a weekend festival at Wormsloe State Historic Site on Saturday, Feb. 7 and Sunday, Feb. 8 — the event features a Colonial Faire and Muster with costumed interpreters and hands-on activities on Saturday, and Super Museum Sunday offers free museum admission. - ➤ Historic Savannah Foundation will host an informative lecture on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Historic Kennedy Pharmacy (323 E. - ➤ Local educator, coach, and community mentor Otis J. Brock Jr. passed away January 28 (after a long, impactful career) surrounded by family; he inspired Savannah State athletics and high school integration and leaves behind his wife of 63 years, children, grandchildren and devoted friends. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ City crews restored the sewer system on Thursday after 5,400 gallons spilled near 104 University Blvd. on Feb. 3 when a broken fire line and freezing conditions increased water flows that overwhelmed it. WTOC 11
- ➤ Bryan County and Richmond Hill officials announced today an investigation into claims of toxic waste and silica contamination at the proposed nickel refinery site at 1 Caesarstone Drive. They said if the claims are confirmed, cleanup measures and enforcement under state law will follow. WTOC 11
- ➤ Today, showers are likely with rain arriving after 4 p.m. along and east of I-95, delivering 0.25 to 0.50 inches across Savannah + cooler, cloudy weather is forecast for Thursday before sunnier conditions return Friday. WJCL
