COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Protesters gathered Saturday at Forsyth Park to voice concerns about federal immigration enforcement and support Minneapolis residents — organizers said the demonstration aimed to heighten local awareness.  WTOC 11

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire displaced 12 people when a residential building on East 67th Street caught fire Saturday at 11:55 a.m.—crews had it under control by 12:07 p.m. and one person received EMS treatment.  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hundreds attended Winter Bash 2026: Havana Nights at the J.W. Marriott on Saturday to kick off the Savannah Music Festival season, braving snowy weather with tropical flair. The event featured dancing, dinner, live auction, and jazz performances by a Cuban ensemble and SMF Jazz Academy.  WJCL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Georgia State Senate passed a bill this week to launch a pilot program for outdoor learning spaces at selected K-8 schools chosen by the state Department of Education. The measure now heads to Gov. Brian Kemp for review and will run for at least three school years.  The Current

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Snowfall blanketed Hardeeville today as travelers from across the south, including some from Savannah, came to see the rare winter scene – local officials say the event is boosting tourism in the area.  WTOC 11
  • After snowfall yesterday, record cold spread across Coastal Georgia and the Lowcountry, as WJCL 22 Chief Meteorologist Jeremy Nelson reported on Jan. 31. Residents should be ready for more icy conditions + very low temperatures.  WJCL
  • Saturday will be cool and cloudy with temperatures in the 30s and 40s; rain will turn to snow (up to 2 inches) north of I-16 under a Winter Storm Warning while areas south face a Winter Weather Advisory, and Sunday will bring extreme cold in the single digits.  WJCL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Richmond Hill declared a state of emergency Friday evening to coordinate with agencies ahead of a winter storm expected to hit Coastal Georgia this weekend (there are no restrictions yet), and the Effingham County School District cancelled Saturday events as a safety measure.  Savannah Morning News

  • Georgia Nurses Association supports House Bill 219 (introduced by Rep. Ron Stephens in Savannah) that would let nurses self-report mental health and substance use issues without a permanent record on their licenses, aiming to reduce burnout and ease the health care worker shortage.  The Current
