  • Senior Citizens Inc. launches its annual Blanket Drive today at 10 a.m. at SCI headquarters (3025 Bull Street) and invites community members to drop off new blankets at designated locations and online for low-income seniors until Feb. 13.  WJCL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash shut down lanes on I-16 after it damaged road signs at State Road 204/37th Street — the Georgia Department of Transportation said the incident occurred at 9:15 a.m. with details still limited.  WJCL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hyundai Motor Group announced its AI robotics strategy on Jan. 5 at an international conference last year to boost human & robot teamwork at its major Savannah auto plant. The company will debut a new Atlas® robot at its Ellabell Metaplant by 2028.  Savannah Business Journal
  • Savannah-based Clearwave Fiber combined with Point Broadband on Jan. 5 to create one of the largest independent fiber operators — reaching over 500,000 homes and businesses across 12 states. The deal excluded Southern Illinois assets acquired by Metro Communications.  Savannah Business Journal
  • Stephanie Dammen-Morrell was named Principal at Hussey Gay Bell on Jan. 5 as the firm expanded its leadership team; CEO G. Holmes Bell IV (PE) said her expertise will support its long-term objectives.  Savannah Business Journal
  • Hannah Griggers Brown, AIA joined Hussey Gay Bell’s Savannah Architectural Studio on Jan. 5 as Senior Project Manager. She brings over 11 years of experience in designing K–12 school facilities and will serve as AIA Savannah Chapter president in 2026 (she earned degrees from SCAD and Georgia Tech).  Savannah Business Journal

  • A historic plaque for the Wetter House and Savannah Female Orphan Asylum will be considered at 425 Oglethorpe Street during the City Council's meeting on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and West Oglethorpe Avenue.  Savannah Business Journal
  • Historic Savannah Foundation, celebrating its 70th anniversary, will feature renowned Gullah-Geechee chef Sallie Ann Robinson at its lecture on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. in the Historic Kennedy Pharmacy at 323 E.   • Dr. Dionne Hoskins-Brown, a school board member for 14 years who chaired the Board Accountability Committee, announced her bid for school board president today at the Forsyth Park band shell (joining supporters, friends, and family).  WTOC 11
  • United Way of the Coastal Empire is hosting Read United volunteer training today at 5:30 p.m. at Asbury Memorial Church (1008 E Henry St.) to help volunteers support early literacy programs; no previous experience is needed.  WTOC 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Department of Public Health warns of widespread flu activity as locals return to work and school after the holidays, urging those without a flu shot to get vaccinated soon at clinics & pharmacies to help protect themselves and vulnerable community members.  WTOC 11
  • Memorial Health doctors urge residents to get flu shots as spiking cases have led to 22 hospitalizations, with symptoms quickly worsening from mild to severe. Free flu shots are available for uninsured patients at county health departments.  WTOC 11
